Media Issues 1: Changing Genres

The development of new media has brought forth many issues especially focusing on changing genres. The many options available has allowed author of a document to adapt the same content in many different format. For example, for every new movie released, there will be an accompanying website, trailer video, promotional podcasts, or factsheet. The links are examples based on the newly launched Summer hit movie, Shrek 3.

Issues related to changing genres include identification of audience, translation or transduction of content and technical aspects of the medium chosen. This is to ensure that the information presented will appeal to the targeted audience and achieving the set goals.

In my opinion, the concept of changing genres is actually a very important skill in current times as it provides audience with a wider option to be selected based on their specific needs. If done properly, audience will have access to a variety of elements that makes up a complete package of information. It is also important to consider when changing the genre of a document, to make sure that it is unique in order to attract audience’s attention and stand out from many other similar documents available.
